Green Island, Australia

Green Island, located about 45 minutes by boat from Cairns, is part of The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are many tours available from Cairns including full and half day excursions. We were there in April 2011, and found it to be an interesting and lovely place to spend the day.

In addition to marine life, you’ll find many varieties of birds on the island.

I walked very cautiously through the jungle since I absolutely did not want to see any snakes!

A few of the photos above were taken by theTravelsketcher.

We were not able to take any photos of the marine life we saw while snorkeling, but there is a wide variety of beautiful fish to see. As we were waiting on the dock to board the boat back to Cairns, we saw a nurse shark swimming in the area not far from where we had been snorkeling. I know they are harmless, but I am certainly glad I didn’t come face to face with it while I was in the water!

  1. The way you’ve described it is really great. We will definitely make a trip once everything opens up. Thank you so much for writing so well and the pictures are also equally compelling
