Leach Botanical Gardens, Portland, OR

Portland has some beautiful botanical gardens including Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens and Elk Rock Gardens, but my favorite is Leach Botanical Gardens. This beautiful, sixteen acre property was originally the home of John and Lilla Leach, who purchased a portion of the plot in the early 1930s. Their original home, a charming stone cottage, still stands on the property.

They later built a larger house that was their home until the mid 1970s when it became too difficult for them to maintain.

I love this old, stone fireplace.

After their deaths, the property was acquired by the City of Portland and is currently open to the public. A five acre expansion was finished in 2021 and includes a tree walk, arbor and interesting benches.

Look up!

The gardens are a tranquil place to wander and take photos.
