Château de Domfront, Normandie, France

Château de Domfront has a turbulent and interesting history that goes back many centuries. From what I was able to find out, it appears that the chateau was built by Henry I Beauclerc, and was standing in 1051 when it was assailed by William the Conquerer, Henry’s father. It passed through many hands during the centuries until it became a protected, historical monument in 1875. Today, it is a public park, free of charge to visit, and luckily, it is just a short drive from our home.

The grounds include ruins of the ramparts, towers and other structures.

The château is located in the medieval section of Domfront which is another interesting place to visit.

You will have worked up an appetite after all that walking, so head to Le Bistrot St Julien. Located just a few blocks from the château, this restaurant has received many favorable reviews and is a favorite with the locals, like us!

If you plan to visit the château in the near future, note that there is some archeological activity at the site and some areas are closed to the public.

I mentioned our car purchase in my post last week, which was finalized on Tuesday. We headed back to Normandie as soon as the paperwork was finished and are glad to be home.

Neville is finally enjoying some outdoor time now that the weather is warmer.
