Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things: air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it. Cesare Pavese

That’s certainly my husband’s view of it, Tricia.

For the most part, travelling definitely forces us to confront ourselves and our beliefs. There are ways around that now though, of course. Great quote and photo.

And yet … while travel is so brutal, we still love it!

Not sure I have the thoughts to ponder this one, except to reflect that a life of familiarity would be boring. It is when we travel that I think about life the most. Thanks as always for provoking thought and memories.

Ah, Leon. I had the rarest hamburger I’ve ever seen at the Lyon train station. It was still mooing faintly. No food poisoning, though!

The French do like very rare beef; it’s definitely an acquired taste.

It tasted good, and was accompanied by a delicious glass of red. What made it funnier was that it was 11:00 in the morning. Not my usual morning fare. 🙂

You’re not the only one – I had the exact same experience and questioned whether it had even glanced a pan.
