I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Bill Bryson

it is a good quote and applies to so many places–but in my personal experience in a few of the odder spots in the world we have lived, I’d remove “childlike” and just say ‘wonder….😳

My love of travel was ignited by trips to England (her home) with my mother when I was a child. In my case, the word “childlike” applies. Cheers.

That’s wonderful, Lynette. England is so beautiful, I can see it sparking childlike wonder. Thanks for sharing!

The feeling of being in a country where you don’t understand the language or customs, where everything is new and unfamiliar, can indeed evoke a sense of childlike wonder and curiosity. I have always loved Bill Bryson’s travel quotes as they are often full of wit and insightful observations. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

Am smiling – I am such a practical creature who has had to travel around the world at fast speeds on business much of the past . . . methinks the needed ‘practicalities’ hit me ere ‘wonderment’ 🙂 !

I had to google Bill Bryson … and he looks like a man whose books I will enjoy (especially under the descriptions of “fun” & “travel”). Thank you, Tricia, your travel quote has revealed a new author to me.
