A Trip North

Nestled in the PNW is the charming town of La Conner, located on Swinomish Channel in northwest Washington State. It’s a popular place to visit during the Tulip Festival which happens every spring, and can draw up to one million visitors.

TheTravelsketcher and I enjoyed a trip there last week to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary, and thankfully, there were very few tourists, so it was nice and quiet. We stayed at the Channel Lodge, a beautiful hotel situated right on Swinomish Channel.

Our room came with a cozy fireplace.

We enjoyed several anniversary meals while there, one at Nell Thorn Waterfront Bistro and Bar. In business since 2014, they specialize in local, organic, farm to table cuisine which is locally sourced and expertly prepared. The service is exceptional as well.

The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive is our all time favorite restaurant in the world, so of course, we had to enjoy a meal there too. This is our go to restaurant for special occasions, or anytime we’re in the area. The food, service and setting are all exceptional.

After a few days in La Conner, we headed to Seattle to see friends and family, and to celebrate our nephew’s 10th birthday. We even got to see him score a goal for his soccer team.

We enjoyed a holiday outing with dear friends, Dave and Rosanne which included a nice lunch and seeing A Christmas Carol at Act Theater, which was a delightful way to kick-off the holiday season.

We also enjoyed some live music at another one of our favorite restaurants in Mukilteo; Cabernets and IPAs.

All in all it was a wonderful anniversary get away and the time spent with family and friends made it even more special.

I hope your holiday season is bright and cheerful.

Tricia

I love your beautifully captured photos from  La Conner – it certainly looks like a prime destination for a few casual days by the water. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. Sounds like a lovely time away from home to celebrate your 38th anniversary! I’ve not heard of La Conner, but it looks like a beautiful place with plenty of fresh, delicious seafood to consume. Seattle’s a fun city to visit as well. Have a wonderful holiday season ahead, Tricia!
