Nestled in the PNW is the charming town of La Conner, located on Swinomish Channel in northwest Washington State. It’s a popular place to visit during the Tulip Festival which happens every spring, and can draw up to one million visitors.

TheTravelsketcher and I enjoyed a trip there last week to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary, and thankfully, there were very few tourists, so it was nice and quiet. We stayed at the Channel Lodge, a beautiful hotel situated right on Swinomish Channel.

We enjoyed several anniversary meals while there, one at Nell Thorn Waterfront Bistro and Bar. In business since 2014, they specialize in local, organic, farm to table cuisine which is locally sourced and expertly prepared. The service is exceptional as well.

The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive is our all time favorite restaurant in the world, so of course, we had to enjoy a meal there too. This is our go to restaurant for special occasions, or anytime we’re in the area. The food, service and setting are all exceptional.

After a few days in La Conner, we headed to Seattle to see friends and family, and to celebrate our nephew’s 10th birthday. We even got to see him score a goal for his soccer team.

We enjoyed a holiday outing with dear friends, Dave and Rosanne which included a nice lunch and seeing A Christmas Carol at Act Theater, which was a delightful way to kick-off the holiday season.

We also enjoyed some live music at another one of our favorite restaurants in Mukilteo; Cabernets and IPAs.

All in all it was a wonderful anniversary get away and the time spent with family and friends made it even more special.
I hope your holiday season is bright and cheerful.

Those meals! They look mouth-watering! It seems like you had an excellent trip with lots of highlights, Tricia.

Oh my yes, they have excellent food there. You know, it’s not far from the WA/BC border, so when it’s safe for Canadians to visit again, it would be worth the trip. Thanks, Lynette!

Thank you, Tricia. I’ll tuck that info away. I’m honestly so sick of this already but then I remind myself that you folks have to live with that sociopath-masquerading-as-a-leader. Ugh.

Sounds like a lovely time away from home to celebrate your 38th anniversary! I’ve not heard of La Conner, but it looks like a beautiful place with plenty of fresh, delicious seafood to consume. Seattle’s a fun city to visit as well. Have a wonderful holiday season ahead, Tricia!

Seeing all the tulips would be lovely, but I’d rather not deal with other tourists. Nice and quiet sounds lovely and ideal for celebrating a wedding anniversary. Beautiful captures, especially of the red sky at night.

It is unfortunate that it gets so crowded there. Thank you!

As always, I enjoy your photos Tricia – especially all those delicious looking dishes! You definitely celebrated your wedding anniversary in style (love the single red rose on the table🌹).

Thanks so much, Corna. We figured 38 years called for something special. Interestingly, the hostess actually switched out the roses partway through the meal. I guess she thought they were getting droopy!
