Lunch in Paris

Many of you may remember hearing about the intense heat wave that hit Paris, and other parts of France in June. Unfortunately, much of our stay in Paris was during the heat wave.

We arrived on Wednesday, June 10, to a comfortable 64F (17C). Over the next week, the temperature gradually increased each day, and by the following Wednesday it was 86F (30C) hot, but not so hot that it curbed our outdoor activities.

Before the intense heatwave, we spent a lot of time enjoying being out in the city with The Paris Corespondent, Shirley, and her husband Jim. We enjoyed dining al fresco, a cruise on Canal St. Martin, visiting Notre-Dame de Paris, strolling through a street market, a little shopping and more.

By Thursday, June 18, the temperature had soared into the 90s, (35C) and by Monday, June 22, it was 99F (37C). We missed out on some of the places we had planned on seeing due to the extreme heat. However, Shirley arranged for us to enjoy some of their favorite restaurants that just happened to be air conditioned. So warm up your taste buds, and get ready to feast your eyes on some more delicious meals.

Pierre Hermé is one of their favorite restaurants (and now ours!), and is located not far from their home. We enjoyed a very special birthday lunch here for Shirley.

Do you notice the man in the blue shirt just over Jim’s shoulder? That is Pierre Hermé himself, having a meeting with some of his employees. Pierre is known as the “Picasso of Pastry” and has won many awards. In fact, in 2016 he was named the World’s Best Pastry Chef; wow! And it’s easy to understand why; his creations are beautiful and delicious. Click here if you’d like to learn more about him.

Another wonderful lunch was at Marcello. Here we had a delectable lunch in a comfortably cool setting. We were even greeted by a friendly cat.

We also enjoyed meals with our friends at their apartment and at our vacation apartment.

So all in all, we made the best of our time in the extreme heat, and enjoyed our time with friends. Hopefully, when we return to Paris in the spring, it will be cooler.

We arrived home a few days ago after a road trip to Northern California and the Pacific coast; click here to read theTravelsketcher’s posts about our time there.

As always, I would love to hear from you, so feel free to leave a comment.

Bon appétit!

Tricia
