Silver and Gold

Kyoto, Japan is an amazing and historical place to visit. I have been there only once; in July when the weather was absolutely sweltering; not the best time of year to visit. There are many sites to see in Kyoto, but the highlight for me was Ginkakuji also known as the Silver Temple. This temple is less famous than the Kinkakuji or Golden Pavilion, but it is a stunning place to visit.

We walked along the Philosopher’s Path to get there. It was raining and the rain helped to cool us off a little. This stone path meanders along a canal and I can’t imagine how much more beautiful it must be in the spring when the cherry trees are in full bloom.

The Golden Pavilion draws more visitors than the Silver Temple. It is a bit like Disneyland as you approach the temple grounds. There are tour busses parked near the entrance, and you’ll have to walk through a maze of souvenir shops, restaurants, kiosks and other offerings to get to the temple. However, it is a beautiful site to see.

Kyoto is filled with many other interesting and beautiful places to see; I hope to visit again someday, when the weather is cooler.

Have you been to Kyoto? If so, please leave a comment with your favorite sites there.

Wishing you adventurous travels; when it’s safe to do so. 🙂
