Memories of Tokyo and Seoul

I don’t usually post blogs more than once a week, but it was two years ago this weekend that we arrived home after a fantastic trip to Tokyo and Seoul, and I want to share some photos of this memorable vacation. While there, we took a side trip to Seoul to visit our niece and her husband who lived there at the time. Our daughter and son-in-law joined us in Tokyo for several days and we all had a great time.

One of our first stops was Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. We spent many hours exploring this 144 acre, tranquil and beautiful location.

We also visited temples, shrines, Tokyo DisneySea and an owl cafe.

Tokyo has many lovely gardens, which provide an escape from the frantic pace of the city.

We took a day trip to the Akigawa Valley where we saw the autumn colors and visited Tomonaga Akimitsu Museum, also in the area.

In Seoul we visited traditional Hanok villages, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul Lantern Festival, Jogyesa Chrysanthemum Festival and took a city tour.

What intrigued me the most about Jogyesa Temple when we visited was the service that was going on in the main building. The drums, chanting and bells were completely captivating and I watched the service, from a respectful distance, for quite a while. The worshippers were seated on the floor bowing and praying, it was a beautiful site to witness.

We found both cities to be interesting, welcoming and filled with many hidden gems; we throughly enjoyed our time in each place and hope to visit again someday.
