I’m in a bit of a funk this week for several reasons. Firstly, our dear friends Tim and Lisa, arrived earlier in May and we enjoyed several weeks together. We had so much fun visiting some of our favorite places, eating out, watching movies, laughing, talking, just being together was wonderful. We said goodbye on Monday, and they arrived safely back in the states yesterday. Secondly, our sweet cat, Neville, is not doing well. Eighteen months ago he was diagnosed with kidney disease. At that time the vet thought he wouldn’t live very long; however, he cleared him for the move to France. Neville has thrived here, being an outdoor cat has always been his preference, but the kidney disease is advancing; I’ll leave it at that for now.
Since I haven’t taken the time to thoroughly prepare a blog post, I’ll share some photos from my bicycle collection. I love taking photos of bikes, and have accumulated quite a few. Here are a few of my favorites.

Travels Through My Lens 
What a wonderful collection of bike photos! I particularly like the first one which features such a beautiful shade of blue. I’m already fascinated by doors, shutters, and door knockers but perhaps I should be on the lookout for bicycles, too! We spent a few days in Amsterdam, this spring, and the bicycle reigns there. I did take a couple of photos of bikes during our visit for my blog. I’ll now be on the lookout for more! Thanks for the inspiration!

We don’t live full-time in France – we spend half the year in the UK – but there are so many interesting doors, windows, and shutters to enjoy here.

This is a wonderful collection of photos; its nice to have these to draw on in a dry week, love the ones that are made into planters.

Thanks Rebecca. As you know, France is a bicyclist’s paradise; we see them daily. So there are lots of “extras” around for decoration. We’re keeping Nev as comfortable as possible. Thanks for stopping by.

All your lovely bicycle photos almost made me want to find one, hop on, and go somewhere. Unfortunately, the last time I ride a bike was in England. I got distracted by the beauty around me and tipped over right into a blackberry bush, providing a passing truck driver with a heart laugh. No biking since….but I did love your photos!

That’s a great bike photo collection.So sorry to hear about Neville. Kidney issues are common in cats but can be eased and slowed through diet, antibiotics and supplements. I have kidney disease also (well controlled through diet but it will slowly progress), so I feel for your dear kitty.

The vet didn’t think he would live very long after his diagnosis, so we’re surprised and pleased that he’s lived so long. He’s such a great cat. I’m sorry to hear that you have kidney disease too, but good thing it’s controlled. Thanks for your comment!

Love all the bicycle photos…what a great collection you have! Thinking of you and your cat. We had our cat for 19 years before he showed signs of slowing down and I know that they are definitely part of the family. Sending love.

Yes, pets are part of the family! We brought him with us to France from the US when we moved here last year. Many people thought we were crazy for doing so, but there was no way we could have left him behind. Thanks for your concern. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos as well; thank you!

This is such an amazing collection of beautiful bike photos. They make great subject matter and you can usually find something interesting about them. When you photograph a bicycle, then, you’re photographing a subject that a lot of people will recognize and relate to, even if they live in a country very different from yours. In this way, bicycles are a kind of gateway into a culture. They create a sense of familiarity, even when the culture or environment is unfamiliar to your viewers. P.S. I am sorry to hear about your cat – it’s easy to get wrapped up in your animal’s illness and forget to enjoy the simple things like snuggles on the couch or playing fetch. When you can relax with your pet, they can relax and heal. Take care 🙂 Aiva xx

Wow, you really have a lot of photos of bicycles! There are so many that I like – the red bike (your fourth photo from the top) and the black bicycle with the words “La Place Dauphine” are among my favourites.

I wonder what it is about bicycles that make them so photogenic…? Maybe because they evoke travel? Even if only for a few blocks? I’m a sucker for a bike with a big, girly basket full of flowers. Your photos are lovely, Tricia, and we miss you, too. I want to fly right back to France and do it all over again.

Bicycles always look beautiful in pictures and your collection is really lovely. I’m sorry you’ve felt in such a funk. It’s hard when good times with friends come to an end. As for Neville, I’m sending you all my thoughts and hugs for the days ahead.
