Another Trip to Paris

It feels surreal to live so close to Paris and to visit whenever we want. We drive 30 minutes to the local train station, park our car in the free, long-term parking lot, hop on a train, and two hours later we’re in the heart of Paris. Before heading to Spain we enjoyed a few days in the city to escape the quiet countryside and spend time with friends.

Our visit last weekend included a tour of the Musée Bourdelle. Antoine Bourdelle was a student of August Rodin and an amazing sculptor. (To read about the Rodin museum, click here). The museum, located in the 15th arrondissement, was once his studio and gardens between 1885 -1929; that’s an amazingly long time considering the physicality of the work.

Here you’ll find over 500 of his works including statues from the size of a human hand to others that are easily 30 feet (9.1 meters) tall or more.

His works also include sketches, paintings, frescos, and more. He was also an instructor and his list of over 40 students from around the globe include some famous artists; Henri Matisse, France; Angela Gregory, US; Ryumon Yusada, Japan; and Margaret Butler, New Zealand.

His daughter was once the manager of the museum which opened in 1949. The museum is open Tuesdays – Sundays and admission is free.

As always, I enjoy wandering and taking photos.

We visited our favorite Paris restaurant, Le Standard, for lunch after visiting the museum. This is the city’s best kept secret as far as we’re concerned. The dishes are not only creative, delicious, and presented beautifully, but they are also prepared from fresh, local ingredients.

We enjoyed other great meals and had lunch with our friends on Sunday.

After several days in Paris, we left for Spain where we’re currently enjoying some sun and warmth; it’s been a perfect birthday getaway. More on Peñíscola in the coming weeks.

Paris is always a good idea. Sabrina played by Audrey Hepburn.

Wishing you grand adventures,

Tricia

  1. Lovely (but cold!) getaway to Paris! I’ve not heard of the musée Bourdelle, but I did just go to the musée Rodin last time I was in Paris and enjoyed it. Le Standard sounds like a wonderful little restaurant; I, too, have my favorites I frequent whenever I’m in town, and it’s always great to savor the fresh dishes in such a beautiful city. Can’t wait to read about your time in Spain!

  2. Your photos are beautiful and so is Paris. There’s nothing better than climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, strolling down the Champs Elysées, visiting the Louvre, seeing many shows and exhibitions, or simply wandering along the banks of the Seine… Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  3. Lovely. It’s so nice living close to a major city with so much to do as it means on return visits there’s always something new to see. Like you, from home, I can get to Paris within 4 hours so it’s really lovely for a weekend break when just needing a change of scene! 🙂

  5. It’s wonderful you live so close to Paris. It’s one of those cities I don’t think I’ll ever tire of as there’s always so much to see and do. I hadn’t come across the Musée Bourdelle before, but I’m going to add it to my list of museums to visit the next time I’m in Paris as it looks right up my street.

  7. You always give the best angles of Paris Tricia and this is a sight I don’t believe I’ve read about before. What an incredibly talented artist Antoine Bourdelle was, and no wonder with Rodin as his teacher. It’s a really fine and vast collection on display and one that Sladja and I would love to see for ourselves one day. As usual your culinary adventures are every bit as top notch. Fine art and sublime food, the essence of Paris.

  8. What a wonderful array of Parisian photos — markets, food, flowers, art, architecture. And even snow! I have not heard of the Musee Bourdelle. It is now on my list for when I’m in Paris again. Thank you for the suggestion. Happy travels!
