A mid-winter get away to a warm location is always a nice break from the cold, rainy, snowy weather for those of us who live in the northern hemisphere. We have managed to achieve just that here in San José del Cabo, Mexico. We arrived here just two days ago and are thoroughly enjoying the warmth and sunshine in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. Today I’m sharing some photos from the last few days, and will follow-up with more details in the coming weeks.

There are many brightly colored buildings and detailed tile work.

Our room in the center of town is very modern, cozy and comfortable, unlike anything else we experienced in Mexico on our previous trips here in the late 1980s.

The hotel courtyard is a little oasis in this busy, hectic city.

I had to take a photo of this for dear friend, Dave, who is a huge fan of the University of Washington Huskies, affectionately referred to as Dawgs!

We’ve had some delicious meals.

The flowers are abundant.

TheTravelsketcher has enjoyed some sketching time.

The Christmas decorations are still up in Plaza Mijares, a popular spot for locals, families and visitors to hang out.

Mexico is wonderfully welcoming. The people are friendly and helpful; it’s a lovely place to escape the cold weather. We still have more time here and are looking forward to a whale watching tour this weekend, and a stay at a hotel on the beach for my birthday.
Check out theTravelsketcher’s recent post to learn more about our time here.
Have you been to San José del Cabo? Even if you haven’t, I would love to hear from you.
Wishing you grand adventures,
Tricia
How delightful! Looking at your photos can somehow feel the warmth around you . . . no need to say ‘enjoy’ – methinks you are. Have sailed past Cabo on a cruise but not had a wander . . , a very colourful one it would have been it seems . . .

How great, Tricia! I visited many years ago – also in the 80s. I would love to know where you stayed as that looks like a lovely (and smallish?) hotel. Happy Birthday to you! 🎂 I hope you enjoy your beach time. Cheers.

How fun that you also visited Mexico in the 80s; hopefully someday we can share our experiences. Here’s the link to the hotel: https://www.hotelcolliloscabos.com/
It’s very nice, but this area is noisy. We’ll be switching to a hotel at the beach tomorrow which should be quieter. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and for your comment!

I can feel the warmth and colour radiating from your photos, completely opposite to the UK at the moment. Enjoy!

A trip to a warm place can be a great way to beat the winter blues. You captured so many beautiful photos. As if Mexico isn’t already known for its vibrant and colourful culture, you’re sure to see plenty of it while visiting San Jose del Cabo. It looks like a wonderful place where art and culture are a regular part of life. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
