Flower Shops

There’s something about gently falling snow that is so idyllic, peaceful, and quiet. Falling snow is mesmerizing and creates a cozy atmosphere while one is sitting next to a warm fire, watching it create a white blanket to cover the earth. We enjoyed a little snow a few days ago; here’s the view of our neighbor’s house from our front door.

However, after a few days of snow, I’m ready for spring flowers. No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. Hal Borland.

With spring comes flowers, and in my travels, I always stop to take photos of flower shops. Here are a few of my favorites as we (at least those of us in the northern hemisphere) look forward to spring.

I love the three below, the first is a flower shop on Île Saint-Louis in Paris taken in 2003. The second is the same shop taken twenty years later, and then theTravelsketcher’s sketch of the same shop.

I hope you enjoyed these photos and thoughts of spring as we wait for winter to thaw and the arrival of flowers.

  1. Great photos and lovely to see. We got a little snow overnight but temperature has plummeted. Really cold for here at -6C. Patrick Allain didn’t change much except for some signage improvements over the door. I find it interesting to compare photos over time as I tend to forget the details.

  2. Your pictures are just bright and joyful with the pops of spring everywhere. I do love spring when the flowers bloom, but I also really love the snow. Tennessee is suppose to get a rare snow storm next week and I am crossing my fingers that the prediction is true 🙂

  3. First of all: Happy birthday to you today Tricia! May you be blessed with good health and may many new adventures await you.
Yes, a snowy winter landscape is beautiful … however, I think I like sunshine more! What a lovely post – flowers (in the field or in a pot in the house) always bring so much joy. Thank you for giving so much colour to my day!

  4. After scrolling through this bounty of photos I felt that I should be watering plants. Just beautiful. All were favorites–but my super favorites were that last batch that included Terry’s sketch (Wow) and the photo of the fabulous flower shop in 2003 and the exact same place twenty years later. I wish I looked the same after 20 years. Ah, well. Thanks for sharing a beautiful and colorful posting on what in Mukilteo today is a VERY COLD day!

      1. Oh, yay! Look forward to reading about your adventures. I really should go back there, especially now. I have two Spanish-speaking newcomers this year so I’ve had to get out my Spanish and dust it off. As with French, I can say a lot more than I can understand. Tu habla espanol?

  5. This is such a wonderful post. There is just something special about walking into a shop tangled with brambles and botanicals, alighted with blooms of every colour and covered in floral curiosities. It is certainly one of life’s simplest, yet greatest pleasures. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  6. These photos are so bright and cheery. Thank you for sharing them! As always you have such a talent for noticing interesting and beautiful scenes to photograph. The flowering trees in Portland are starting to bud, so it seems spring is just around the corner.

  7. I’m with you on flower shops Tricia. You have presented such a charming collection here from start to finish (love Terry’s depiction of Les Fleurs by the way). The timing of reading this post is also spooky as we have just moved into a new apartment and are thinking about hitting such a place for flowers and an array of plants to brighten the place up. Kinda wish I could throw my arm into a few of these photos and grab some bits.
