Amusing Signs, Part IV

Here is another post from my amusing sign collection. I love taking photos of signs that I find amusing, creative, ironic, odd, thought provoking or relatable. If you’re interested, here are the links to the previous posts on amusing signs.

Even More Amusing Signs

Here are my most recent additions. I hope you enjoy them!

Tim; always the rebel.

Friend Lisa sent this one.

Someone who shall remain nameless suggested I need this sweater.

À votre santé or cheers!

Woof, woof!

The Keep Portland Weird initiative is alive and well! Here we love our expressiveness, individuality and reputation for being fun and quirky. With that in mind, here are some very Portland-ish things I’ve seen lately. This one was particularly head-scratching; this guy was giving a hair cut and getting instruction from a hair stylist in the middle of the road!

Here’s a closer look:

Sure, let’s just walk out to the median to do your hair; seriously?!?

Hey! Where did you get your shoes?

Hmm; maybe this is an ad for rock band?

The photo below is a sad one. The US is the only developed country that does not provide health insurance for all residents. As a result, we have a large population of homelessness and people in need of mental health care. Seeing homeless and street people is very common here. When we lived in France, and in our travels around Europe, we saw very few homeless people, or people in need of mental health care, because everyone there has health insurance; duh! Even as expats, we were covered by the French National Health System. Universal Health Care is the way to go!

With that in mind, we will continue to resist the Trump Administration’s draconian, cruel, inhumane and horrible practices every step of the way.

I hadn’t intended to include politics in this post, but with federal troops now on their way to Portland because, according to Trump, our city is a “war ravaged” “hell hole”, we’re feeling a little on edge. We have a wonderful city that is filled with so much beauty, interesting places, people and has a strong sense of community; he is so wrong.

We actually visited the protestors at the Portland ICE facility last weekend to learn more and check out the facts. It’s nothing but peaceful protests and citizens standing up for our constitional rights. We even chatted with one protestor who was featured on the Stephen Colbert show; wow! To learn more, click here to read theTravelsketcher’s recent post.

We’ll continue to resist every step of the way and hope to find some kindness and beauty in these dark days.

All the best,

Tricia

  1. I love these, especially the marble bag with the hole. I’m definitely showing signs of that. 😊 I’ve been watching (and hearing) all the vicious crap coming out of that moron’s wide open trap and been thinking about you and our U.S. friends. All of this is frightening, shocking, unbelievable and so sad. Many, many people here are worried that he’s going to try to get at us through the Arctic. Very, very worrying.

    1. I’m right there with you about the marble bag! 🤪 You have summed it up perfectly, Lynette.
Regarding tRump, even his own mother called him an idiot! All you say is spot on. It’s so frightening now. We’re just trying to hang on and stay positive.

  2. Many of the signs gave me a good chuckle, especially with all of the not-so-great news these days…I heard about the ICE facility in Portland, and I hope you’re staying safe! These times are precarious, but we will resist and persist!

  3. This posting is fabulous—made us laugh and smile—and the made us think! (And I do promise not to report the three people drinking under the “No alcoholic beverages” sign. Sad about the health care system–in the US! Especially when one of the holdups in the current shutdown is that one ‘side’ wants to decimate what we currently have in place for those in need. Sigh. Your last sign is not only timely but critically important. Do not accept: RESIST. Thank you for all of this!

  4. This gave me a few chuckles!
So sad what is happening in our country, never thought I would live to see this day come, but here we are. I doubt we will ever have universal healthcare in this country, there are too many selfish people who don’t want to help others.

  5. I must say from my knowledge of Portland gained through the internet and from bloggers, it was very obvious that Trump does not know the place at all. I hope that you can survive his attentions.

Good signs from first to last.

  6. Great post, Tricia, you made me laugh. I love all the signs, but the public typing station takes the biscuit for me. Do you know if it gets used much? Well, the troops have been blocked, but I’m sure they’ll win in the end. This is a very scary moment especially what he said to the US generals about ‘enemy from within’ and ‘war practice’. Resistance is the only way, but it does take a lot of bravery.

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed the signs. Regarding the typing stations, there were some words and phrases typed on the paper, but I didn’t see anyone using them. That shop is just a few blocks from our home, so I’ll keep an eye out.
Interestingly, it was a Trump appointed judge who blocked the troops from coming here; that gave us a glimmer of hope. The whole thing with the generals was completely insane and horrible. We’re resisting every step of the way. Thanks so much, Leighton, I appreciate your support!

  7. I always enjoy your signs so much – nothing like a post to bring a smile early in the morning.
I’m not very informed about Trump and his actions – we have our own problems here in SA – so, all I can say is that I hope justice will ultimately be served.

  8. Such a brilliant collection, Tricia! Signs are meant to inform or warn us, but I just love how sometimes they take it to the next level by making us laugh so hard we might forget where we’re heading. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
