Many of you may remember hearing about the intense heat wave that hit Paris, and other parts of Europe in June. Unfortunately, much of our stay in Paris was during the heat wave.
We arrived on Wednesday, June 10, to a comfortable 64F (17C). Over the next week, the temperature gradually increased each day, and by the following Wednesday it was 86F (30C) hot, but not so hot that it curbed our outdoor activities.

Before the intense heatwave, we spent a lot of time enjoying being out in the city with The Paris Corespondent, Shirley, and her husband Jim. We enjoyed dining al fresco, a cruise on Canal St. Martin, visiting Notre-Dame de Paris, strolling through a street market, a little shopping and more.

By Thursday, June 18, the temperature had soared into the 90s, (35C) and by Monday, June 22, it was 99F (37C). We missed out on some of the places we had planned on seeing due to the extreme heat. However, Shirley arranged for us to enjoy some of their favorite restaurants that just happened to be air conditioned. So warm up your taste buds, and get ready to feast your eyes on some more delicious meals.
Pierre Hermé is one of their favorite restaurants (and now ours!), and is located not far from their home. We enjoyed a very special birthday lunch here for Shirley.

Do you notice the man in the blue shirt just over Jim’s shoulder? That is Pierre Hermé himself, having a meeting with some of his employees. Pierre is known as the “Picasso of Pastry” and has won many awards. In fact, in 2016 he was named the World’s Best Pastry Chef; wow! And it’s easy to understand why; his creations are beautiful and delicious. Click here if you’d like to learn more about him.

Another wonderful lunch was at Marcello. Here we had a delectable lunch in a comfortably cool setting. We were even greeted by a friendly cat.

We also enjoyed meals with our friends at their apartment and at our vacation apartment.

So all in all, we made the best of our time in the extreme heat, and enjoyed our time with friends. Hopefully, when we return to Paris in the spring, it will be cooler.
We arrived home a few days ago after a road trip to Northern California and the Pacific coast; click here to read theTravelsketcher’s posts about our time there.
As always, I would love to hear from you, so feel free to leave a comment.
Bon appétit!
Tricia
You definitely didn’t go hungry, Tricia. In those temperatures I don’t have much of an appetite but I expect I could manage a morsel. It all looks delicious xx

We certainly didn’t! That’s true, and I ended up with lots of leftovers. Thanks, Jo.

It looks like you had a wonderful time, dear Tricia. Your beautiful Paris posts always make me want to revisit the French capital once more. I remember the heatwave and how many landmarks, including the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, closed early due to the unbearable heat. I travelled to Scotland to escape the European heat, but I didn’t manage it due to unexpected sweltering conditions that swept through Edinburgh with no relief in sight. A heatwave in a city is very hard to bear because of a lack of natural cooling elements. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

It was a wonderful time, thank you, Aiva. Although the heatwave made it less pleasant. I didn’t realize that the heatwave hit Edinburgh too; that’s intense. That’s too bad you had to endure it too. Thanks, as always for your thoughtful comment. I hope you’re having a lovely day.

The meals look delicious. We were in Czechia at the same time. It was very hot and worse, difficult to find apartments/hotels with air-conditioning.

Oh, that’s too bad. AC in Europe is difficult to find. Thanks for sharing.

All that wonderful food that you pictured! We just returned from one of our favourites here, a Québécois restaurant that does traditional French country in the Québec style. It was perfect to read your post afterward. Lovely that you’re returning in the spring. The weather should be much more temperate.

The Québécois restaurant sounds wonderful! It sounds like a wonderful time. The French sure know how to prepare delicious food. We’re hoping spring will be cooler than our last visit! Thanks, Lynette!

Who wouldn’t get hungry seeing all that food served, even though it’s boiling hot outside? Now I really want to try it. Try the food, I mean, not the heat, sorry.

I love the sketch of the Eiffel Tower and the sun 😁 – no doubt you were there in a heatwave! The street scenes you photograph are always beautiful, but it’s your food that makes me crave something to eat every time. You should make a coffee table book with only your food pictures!

Oh my, Corna, thanks so much, that’s so kind. I love food photography, but it’s quite difficult. And Terry says thanks so much for your kind words about his sketch. Thank you!

Bonjour!
Thank you for sharing your amazing photography. It was such a pleasure to read your post, and it brought back memories of our short holiday in Paris last year.
Paris truly feels like a city where art and beauty are everywhere. My husband and I found it so difficult to move from one place to another without stopping to admire and praise something along the way. From the stunning architecture and historic buildings to the beautiful street lamps, details on buildings, famous landmarks, and even the presentation of food, everything seemed to have its own artistic touch.
It felt as though art was not confined to museums or galleries; it was spread throughout the city and woven into everyday life. Every corner seemed to offer something beautiful to admire.
We are already looking forward to visiting Paris again and spending more quality time there, discovering more of its beauty, art, history, and unforgettable atmosphere. 🇫🇷✨

I agree to everything you said about Paris; it’s like a living museum. Everywhere one turns, there’s something beautiful to see. I’m so glad you enjoyed your time there and my post as well. I hope you get to return soon and continue to enjoy exploring this amazing city. Thanks you for sharing!

Those pastries look delectable. I’ve never tried making macarons. They look so fussy. What an amazing trip, despite the heat. I can’t believe you’re already going back in the spring! When France calls, you must go! 🙂

I can confirm they were delicious! It was a wonderful time shared with many friends and we can’t wait to return in the spring. Our favorite airline, Alaska, now flies nonstop from Seattle to several cities in Europe, and Terry is a million-miler with them, so we get lots of perks. Agreed; when France calls, there’s nothing to do but go! Thanks for commenting.

Crazy to hear how much the temperature changed within a week. Glad you got to do a bit of wandering around before the heatwave. And hey, spending time indoors with air conditioning, good company and eating delicious food doesn’t sound too bad! Those pastries and desserts look heavenly!

I don’t know what is happening with the weather lately, but it seems this whiplash of temperatures is all over. Love your pictures of simple, beautiful moments around a city that is anything but simple 🙂

That’s for sure; we’ve had a unseasonably warm autumn here. It was 80 degrees here just a week ago; very odd for October. Thank you!
